Tommaso Asso - Italy
Born in Florence in 1990, Tommaso Asso is an Italian architect and painter captivated by the multifaceted nature of cities. In his works, he captures urban fragments, showcasing their physical, aesthetical, and social dimensions.
For Tommaso, cities serve as metaphors for life and society. He crafts imaginary cityscapes mentally and brings them to life on canvas as a mosaic of layers, colors, architectural details, and the people who inhabit them.
The cityscapes are sometimes blurred and sometimes clear, much like existence itself - at times easy to grasp but always enigmatic. The puzzle-like cities offer the opportunity of dialogue with the spectator, unveiling concealed details as one approaches, as an open invitation to delve deeper.
The recurring rooster in his work is a tender wink to his home city of Florence where this particular animal can be found adorning the interior of older shops.
Graduated from the Polytechnic University of Turin in architecture and urbanism, Tomasso Asso has traveled extensively across Europe, especially in Brussels and Amsterdam, where he lived for several years. In 2019, he returned to Florence where he currently practices as an architect.
