Sophie Bianco - France

In her life in Paris, Sophie observes a common restlessness, an inability to be content with what is as well as to be aware of the narratives we create, reflecting our desires and anxieties rather than objective social or historical truths.

Her work with papercuts explores this modern, individualistic discontent. The precision and slow pace demanded to create the elaborate papercuts coerce her into confronting reality, as she carefully determines where to carve out spaces of emptiness. Papercut is traditionally associated with rituals and myths in many cultures, serving as a medium for conveying cultural narratives. Sophie repurposes this tradition, turning papercut into a vessel for her contemporary urban tales.

Sophie is a Political science graduate and has studied photography and painting in diverse workshops across Lyon and Paris. Presently, she participates in workshops led by Ulysse Borderias and Timothée Dufresne in Paris. Previously, she was a member of the photography collective "Le Soir" led by Sarah Mulot, showcasing her work in collective exhibitions in Lyon, France.
