Elio Mercer is a visual artist working with painting, collage and printmaking. He holds a degree from the Central Saint Martins School of Art in London and has had his works exhibited across the UK, taken part in art residences as well as having been featured in several magazines.

His work explores ideas of embodying masculinity and queer coded dynamics from a trans masculine perspective. Further, it addresses the experience of discovering and exploring one's own masculinity, and the virile physicality and materiality of this growth.

Mercer’s paintings often depict solo portraits - or compositions of pairs or groups - of masculine bodies in different states of undress. The friction living within the intimacy depicted points towards the erotic, while also examining the sexualised gaze. It asks what we see when we look upon male intimacy and tenderness.

His research is focused on hidden and alternative masculine histories, both through queer narratives and camaraderie.
