Bardia Soltanabadi is a Swedish-Iranian painter based in Copenhagen, Denmark. His artistic journey began as a way to break free from the rigidity of his primary profession as a medical doctor, allowing him to make sense of the experiences gathered in that field and to cultivate a craft that could capture elements often overlooked in clinical academia.
Bardia’s art is defined by a dual focus: figurative portraits and compositions and abstract compositions. These two modes of painting are radically different from one another. His portrait work draws on classical techniques to depict the complexities of the human condition, while his abstract compositions embrace restraint, seeking balance and structure by distilling color and form to their essence. Bardia’s love for portrait painting stems from its ability to act as a mirror, reflecting something intrinsic about human nature. His passion for abstract art, on the other hand, is not only tied to its ineffable beauty but also to the refuge it provides in the clarity of its forms. The intersection of these two approaches shapes his artistic voice, blending the strengths of both worlds.
As a professional autodidact artist, Bardia's work is a testament to his experimentation with styles and continual refinement of techniques. His portfolio reflects this evolution. He primarily works with oil, a medium chosen for its versatility, its ties to tradition, and its sculptural qualities. In his process, he combines the techniques of the Old Masters, such as Brown School brushwork, with the methods of modern portrait and abstract painters, fusing classical practices with a contemporary vision.
